Accommodation consists of three classrooms, department office, share of storeroom with History and Mathematics.
Head of Department plus three full time members of teaching staff, plus a qualified teacher of Geography who is DHI (deaf and hearing impaired) co—ordinator, plus a member of SMT teaching part time within the department (and the Principal is a Geography teacher also!).
The department is enriched by the extensive and varied prior experience of the teachers: in comprehensive education, in the tertiary sector, in special schools and in local authority education departments Staff in the department are well travelled, having visited destinations including Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Ecuador. The full—time members of staff take responsibility for one year group each in terms of managing curriculum and assessment issues. Year 11 students participate in a residential weekend at Malham Tarn Field Centre, examining features of the local geography and acting as a springboard for the geography coursework
The Key Stages at which each course is taught are Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5.
Geography is a core foundation subject at Key Stage 3 and an optional subject at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. At Key Stage 4 students study the Edexcel A Specification. At Key Stage 5 students study the Edexcel Specification.
Geography is a popular option choice at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. There are currently 5 classes at Key Stage 4 and 2 classes at Key Stage 5.
