Sunday 7th February saw six Year 12 students; Megan Hudson, Alex Miller, Sarah Riley, Alice Quinn, Jake Skidmore and Sean Clifford and mentor Miss Williams, heading up the A1 to the Metro Centre in Gateshead. The event - The annual Tyneside Trade Fair.
The Sixth Formers are a Young Enterprise Group, who have designed and put together a small textile company known as ‘Edit', as part of their Business course. The team took along their personalised embroidered hooded tops and some wrist bands to promote Valentine's Day and raise funds to support the Haiti Earthquake Appeal.
The group were lucky enough to secure a spot at the event to run from 9am until 5pm, with the students taking it in turns to manage the stand, whilst the others ventured around the Metro Centre promoting their products. There were over forty different schools attended the event, selling a whole host of goodies from fudge to t-shirts and aprons!
Our entrepreneurs sold enough ‘hoodies' to cover the costs of the rent, with the remainder of the profits donated to the Haiti Earthquake appeal. Miss Williams, the groups mentor and BITE teacher could not praise the students highly enough; "They were a credit to The King's Academy and it was a pleasure to assist them in this enterprising venture".
