February saw the Sixth Form Business students setting off on a one day educational visit to the Coca Cola factory in Wakefield. The plant is the biggest in the country and with an area equivalent of 30 football pitches; this promised to be an effervescent visit.
Mrs Taylor and Miss Williams accompanied the students as they were taken around the plant. After being provided with trend setting regulation hair nets and earphones (so that the group complied with health and safety standards), the students were treated to a detailed, guided tour to view where the product was bottled, canned, checked for quality, labelled, packed and then stored ready for distribution to supermarkets and other retail outlets.
The students were then given a classroom style presentation where the history of the firm was explained along with the varied number of products that Coca Cola manufacture. Did you know that Capri Sun and Minute Maid drinks are manufactured by Coca Cola? Mrs Taylor and Miss Williams didn't either! At the end of the workshop, all the group received a free drink and a take-away to quench their thirsts on the journey home.
Miss Williams was pleased with how the event had stimulated the students (could it be the caffeine content in the Coca Cola that helped?!) explaining; "The day was a huge success, where students could apply the theory of manufacturing, distribution, Just-In-Time production and management strategies to a real life scenario that they were all familiar with."
You never know, we may be seeing some sparkling entrepreneur King's student working for Coca Cola in the future.
