The Year 10 football team were involved in an enthralling and exciting game against Macmillan Academy for a place in the quarter finals of the English Schools Football Under 15 Cup.
On an extremely muddy and heavy pitch the King's started badly giving away an easy goal and scoring an own goal before the half time break.
The second half stared as the first had finished with the King's conceding another goal to go 3 - 0 down.
This seemed to wake the team up and they began to play the type of football that had got them through previous rounds. With complete team commitment and some substitutions the King's scored three goals and at the end of full time they were the team pressing for the winner.
Extra time was the same story with the King's surging forward hitting the crossbar and having chances cleared off the line. Only some desperate defending and bad luck keep Macmillan in the game. At the end of extra time the score remained at 3 - 3.
The game was decided on penalties with Macmillan going first. Both teams scored their first two penalties. Macmillan scored their next penalty and the King's was saved. The fourth Macmillan penalty was the saved by the King's keeper and the next two were scored leaving the King' to score to send the competition into sudden death. Unluckily the King's player put his shot wide and Macmillan went onto the next round.
This was an excellent game which would have being worthy of the final. In view of the commitment sportsmanship and determination it is a travesty that their had to be a looser.
