Curriculum Statement

Our ambition for every student of The King’s Academy is that they enjoy reading, can read fluently and can use inference to interpret the world around them so that they choose their actions with wisdom. We therefore incorporate Reciprocal Reading strategies in all subjects. Students in Years 7 and 8 access the Accelerated Reading programme to develop their reading skill, and those who need support with reading are selected for interventions to close their reading gaps. We want our students to write accurately and fluently, and so we provide scaffolding and examples to show them what good writing looks like. We show good examples of fiction and non-fiction writing in tutor time as models and inspirations, discussing language and structure, but also meaning. We want every student at The King’s Academy to speak with confidence, so we encourage discussion and debate in tutor times as well as lessons.
