RE-ENGAGE

Curriculum Statement

In Re-engage we work with a small group of students who need support to engage with learning and relationships in the Academy and beyond. Our purpose is to create enthusiasm around learning and to develop skills which they put into practice when returning to mainstream lessons. Our ambition for students is that they learn how to act with self-control in these lessons long term, so that they achieve their personal best.

The Re-engage curriculum teaches National Curriculum knowledge and skills in a reduced range of subjects, combining this with softer skills teaching kindness and compassion, which then enable students to implement both in the classroom and at home. Lessons are taught by subject specialists in English, Maths, Science, Religious Education, Art, Food Technology, History, Geography and RSHE.

In their time in Re-engage we want to support students to develop character by promoting the behaviours and virtues we expect every student in The King’s Academy community to demonstrate. They will also work closely with Emotional Literacy Support Assistants and the Re-engage manager on character development and emotional needs, often on a 1-1 basis. This happens not just in Re-engage, but when they return to their mainstream lessons. Students in Re-engage continue with careers education and advice so that they can see the connections between their engagement with learning and their life beyond.
