Welcome to our website. We hope you will be able to navigate your way around, to get a feel for the school, what we do and how we do it.

We consider your education to be a huge responsibility and it is one that we take very seriously. Your parents will care greatly about your education also, and they have entrusted The King’s Academy to be your school from Year 7 through to Year 11 and beyond. We aim to provide a high quality service to your parents as well as to you, by providing you with high quality teaching and a learning environment in which you can aspire to achieve your very best.

Personal Best
Here at The King’s, we talk a lot about “Personal Best”. This is the idea that, regardless of your ability, you can work hard to achieve the best that you are capable of achieving – in your academic studies, on the sports field, in music and drama, in positions of responsibility, and in all other areas of school life. We do not want you to worry about the achievements of others around you, but to focus on yourself and what you are able to give. We are keen that you work hard and take the matter of your education very seriously indeed. We are also keen that you try your best, time and time again, even when you experience failure and difficulty.

Fail stands for First Attempt In Learning!
We want you to fail! Seriously, we do! This is not because we are being mean, but because we want you to learn from your failures and to succeed. Failure is part of life – we all experience failure – but it is how you respond to failure that matters. For some people, when they fail at something, that is the end – they stop trying – they give up. For you, though, when you fail at something, we want you to learn from that failure and try again. You will have heard the saying “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” How very true! Keep trying, keep failing, keep learning from failure and, over time, your success will come.

Imagine if you sit a test in history and score a mark of 4 out of 10. This may be perceived as a failure, but ask yourself some questions. How much did you revise for the test? How well did you understand the work you’ve been tested on? Was the score of 4 out of 10 the best you could do, or do you think you could do better? If you were to resit the same test tomorrow, do you think you would do better next time? We want to help you in your learning, and if you are willing to work hard and try your best, together we will succeed. Our ultimate aim, of course, is for you to achieve 10 out of 10 in the history test. Are you with us?

Core Values
There are seven Core Values that are very important to us: Honourable Purpose, Humility, Compassion, Integrity, Accountability, Courage and Determination. You will hear us talk a lot about these Core Values during your time with us. Each of these values forms a vital part of your character and personality, and we are keen that you explore each of these with us. It is our aspiration that you will develop into a caring and considerate individual, who can be trusted and relied on by others. As you go on to take up your place in society, we are keen that you are hard working, honourable and courageous in what you do, whether as an employee or employer, husband, wife, parent, carer or neighbour. We want you to take your role in society seriously, and to care greatly about how you treat others. Is that what you want too?

High Standards
At The King’s, we set high standards. You need to know that. We expect you to attend school well, behave well, work hard and give of your best. We are not a school that will allow you to “rest on your laurels”. Quite the opposite, we want you to be always pushing – to learn more, to do more, to give more. We want you to never be satisfied with the status quo, but to always ask yourself “What can I learn from this and how can I get better at what I do?” If you go through life with this attitude, the world will be your oyster and the opportunities before you will be limitless.

Excellent Behaviour
Students of The King’s Academy have earned the reputation for excellent behaviour – in the classroom, around the school, and beyond the school gates out in the local community. We do not tolerate any student who chooses to behave poorly, as they are placing not only their own education at risk but also the education of others around them. We also support our teachers in creating a disciplined and orderly environment where they can get on and teach and where you can get on and learn.

Academic Success
As time goes by, our examination results at GCSE, BTEC and A-Level keep getting better and better. This is not a happy accident. Instead, it is the result of a great deal of hard work and application from our students and staff. If you want to be part of a school that strives to always get better and do better, for the sake of all of its students, then The King’s Academy is the right place for you. If you are wanting to be lazy and to not push yourself, then perhaps there are other schools in the area that might suit you better. What I do know is this – your parents will want you to work hard and achieve your very best. That should be your ambition also.
